KARACHI, Sept 2: The Pakistan American Solidarity Society (PASS) was trying to contribute towards a society devoid of religious intolerance and obscurantism in order to establish perpetual human values and ties to create a prosperous and stable future for everybody.

This was stated by PASS chief Mehar Hussain Shah at a press briefing on Monday. PASS Pakistan secretary general Noor Naz Agha and PASS Sindh coordinator Syed Ghulam Shah and others also attended.

He said that PASS had been formed to clear the misconceptions and misunderstandings that had cropped up between the people’s of the United States and Pakistan after the Sept 11 attacks.

He said that the main objectives of PASS are to promote tolerance, pluralism and respect between different religious faiths; to promote principles of gender justice, equality, increase of women visibility and role in public policy; to promote rights of religious minorities; to promote human rights, market economy and good governance and insure effective accountability.

Other objectives of the organization are to facilitate joint economic ventures between the two countries. The society would be a non-political body and would deploy its resources for activities for the welfare of people. It would seek help and necessary assistance from like-minded organizations of the world, and also from the governments of both countries.

He said PASS would hold conferences, seminars, public meetings, educational programmes, art exhibitions, launch publications and conduct research work to promote its objectives. It would also organize good-will delegations comprising of intellectuals, professionals, religious and other scholars from both countries.
