Larkana, Aug 31: The returning officer for PS-36 (Larkana-II) rejected on Saturday the nomination papers of Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Sindh People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP), on the grounds of being defaulter of the Allied Bank, Karachi.
Khuhro came to the court in a procession and waited around for one hour to hear the decision.
Returning officer Abrar Hussain F. Memon told Dawn that Khuhro was the defaulter of the ABL, Boat Basin Road branch, Karachi, where he was the guarantor of her daughter. Her daughter was a co-sharer in Al-Waqar Transport Company. He further said that the nomination papers of Khuhro stood rejected under section 99(S) of the Peoples Representation of 1976.
Following the announcement of the decision in the open court by the judge, where advocate Khalid Iqbal Memon and Ayaz Soomro represented Khuhro, the PPP workers started shouting slogans. Heavy police was deployed on the gate of the courts and most of the time police, led by ASP City Mohammad Alam Shinwari, was seen patrolling the court area to ward off any untoward incident.
KHUHRO REACTS: Reacting to the rejection of his nomination papers, Khuhro said when the papers of PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto could be rejected then it was only natural to see the rejection of papers of her supporters.
“This is a double standard,” he said, adding that the legal battle would continue as soon as we go into appeal, contesting this decision.
He pointed out that despite the fact that still there were two days to go in the completion of the scrutiny process, the returning officer did not heed his request to allow him to rectify the anomalies in the papers, if any.
