50 feared drowned

NEW DELHI, Aug 31: One person died and 50 others were feared drowned on Saturday when a boat capsized in a river in Orissa.

The boat, packed with around 70 people, went down in the Baitarani river in Orissa’s Jajpur district.

Jajpur police officials said six people had managed to swim to shore.

One of them, a woman, died later in hospital while the others were seriously ill.

Local officials rushed to the accident site to supervise the rescue operation.—AFP
