PESHAWAR, Oct 8: The government has closed all the educational institutions and ordered postponement of the ongoing examinations for an indefinite period. The political authorities in FATA have also taken the same decision and shut down schools and colleges in seven tribal agencies on Monday.

Last night, a large number of students, staying at various dormitories, took out a procession and held an anti-government and anti-America demonstration on Peshawar University campus soon after the US-led air-strikes on Afghanistan. The varsity students paraded on various campus streets and chanted slogans against the military government’s decision to allow the US to use Pakistan’s airspace for sorties on Afghanistan.

Students of the Islamia College also staged a demonstration on varsity campus against what they called the ‘US-led aggression’ against Afghan people.

Sensing the anti-government mood of the student community, the government ordered the immediate closure of the schools, colleges and varsities in the province and other eight administrative units including provincially administered areas (PATA).

The campus coordination committee at its emergency meeting on Monday decided to close University of Peshawar, NWFP Agriculture University, NWFP University of Enginering and Technology, Khyber Medical College and Islamia College forthwith. The committee also postponed ongoing examinations till further order.
