ISLAMABAD, Aug 29: Federal Minister for Information and Media Development Nisar A. Memon has invited Turkish media team to cover the general elections in the country on October 10.

The invitation was extended by the information minister to the Turkish ambassador to Pakistan, Hasan Kemal Gur, who called on him at his office here on Thursday.

Talking to the ambassador, Mr Memon said Pakistan and Turkey were bound together by centuries-old ties of history, religion and culture, which were destined to move from strength to strength in the years ahead.

The information minister said the two countries had identical views on many international issues and stood by each other in times of need.

Mr Memon said that he was inviting the Turkish journalists after realizing the need for more closer cooperation in the field of media between the two countries. “Exchanges of media teams be increased and expedited to their mutual advantage,” he said.

The minister also thanked Turkey for supporting Pakistan over the Kashmir issue during the OIC Foreign Minister conference held in Khartoum.

Reciprocating the goodwill gestures, the ambassador said the two countries enjoyed excellent bilateral relations. He said Turkish media would be happy to cover the elections in Pakistan.

The ambassador lauded Pakistan’s role in combating terrorism at the national and international levels.
