KARACHI, Aug 28: Thirty-three women and eight members of minorities in Sindh have fielded themselves on general seats of the province in the National Assembly.

Likewise, 101 women and 58 minorities candidates have offered themselves to contest on general seats of Sindh Assembly.

In Sindh, there are 75 seats of the National Assembly — 61 general and 14 reserved seats for women. In the Provincial Assembly in the House of 168 members, there are 130 general seats while 29 reserved for women and nine reserved for minorities.

According to initial reports, a total of 916 candidates have filed nomination papers on 61 general seats of the National Assembly of Sindh and 92 nominations against 14 reserved seats for women, while on 130 general seats of the provincial assembly 2280 nominations were filed.

On reserved seats in the provincial assembly, against 29 women seats, 95 nominations have been filed and against nine minorities seats, 234 nominations were filed.

Highest number of nominations on NA general seats by women candidates were filed in Karachi East where eight women have offered candidature, followed by Hyderabad where five women are in the run. However, in Sukkur, Nawabshah and Karachi central, three nominations were deposited in each district.

In the Sindh Assembly highest number of nominations filed against general seats by women candidates were 22 in Karachi Central, followed by Karachi West where 17 nominations were filed. In Karachi South and Hyderabad nine nominations in each district were filed while eight were filed in Karachi East, eight in Badin, seven in Sukkur, six each in Thatta and Malir.

NON-MUSLIMS: In the province highest number of nominations filed by minorities against general seats were 20 in Mirpurkhas and 18 in Tharparkar. This was followed by four in Ghotki, four in Hyderabad, three each in Jacobabad and Badin, one each in Sukkur, Khairpur, Nawabshah, Sanghar, Karachi Central and Karachi South.

According to the sources in the election commission, the total nominations papers filed in each district for NA and PA seats are as under:
