MULTAN, Nov 8: The Anti-Corruption Establishment, Multan, claim to have arrested 87 persons of different departments and recovered an embezzled amount of Rs9.6 million from their possession during the month of October.
The ACE recovered Rs2 million from Lodhran storage officer Ghulam Akbar. The district food officer, Multan, had alleged that he embezzled wheat from the government storage.
On the report of the Sahiwal DFC, Rs0.105 million had been recovered from Sahiwal AFC Muhammad Ismail and Rs0.71 million from Bahawalnagar AFC Malik Sajid.
The ACE also retrieved Rs2.7 million from three Cholistan Development Authority officials — Jan Muhammad, Habib Ahmad and Khadim Hussain.
Similarly, Rs1.65 million were recovered from former Vehari Health department accountant Muhammad Ilyas, Rs0.35 million from former Pakpattan market committee accountant Muhammad Hassan, Rs0.25 million from Bahawalnagar cooperative society official Muhammad Akram and Rs0.12 million from Muhammad Ramzan, manager of the Lodhran Cooperative Bank.
From Education department officials, Rs0.034 million had been recovered while rest of the embezzled amount was retrieved from officials of revenue, irrigation, buildings and mineral departments.
EDUCATION: Imprisoned children are being imparted primary and religious education besides providing them with technical skills.
This was stated by Punjab Social Welfare minister Miss Shaheen Attiqur Rehman here on Thursday while distributing prizes among children in the District Jail, Multan.
She said after acquiring technical skills the children would be able to earn their livelihood through respectable means instead of resorting to crime. She also urged the children to take interest in their studies as it would help build confidence in them.
Later, she visited different sections of the jail and inspected the quality of food that was being provided to prisoners.
She directed the jail superintendent to prepare a list of needy prisoners so that a legal aid could be extended to them. — NOUMAN
