KARACHI, Aug 28: On the second day of scrutiny of nomination papers for 20 general seats of the National Assembly (NA) and 42 Sindh Assembly (PA) seats from the city, nine nominations of NA candidates and 12 of PA candidates were rejected.

Out of the total 382 nominations filed for 20 NA seats and 942 for 42 PA seats on Wednesday, 146 and 192 papers were scrutinized, and 137 and 173 were accepted respectively.

The scrutiny process of the remaining nominations for general seats in the NA and PA will continue till Sept 2. However, scrutiny of nominations filed for the 29 reserved seats for women in the Sindh assembly were completed on Wednesday, while nominations on 14 reserved NA seats for women will be taken up for scrutiny on Sept 1 in the presence of the candidates at the office of the provincial election commissioner, Sindh.

According to initial information gathered from different returning officers and assistant returning officers, most of the papers were rejected owing to the failure of meeting the educational qualifications.
