ISLAMABAD, Aug 27: Returning Officer for NA-48 on Tuesday rejected four nomination papers out of 30.

Sahibzada Ahmed Raza Khan Kasuri of Tehrik-i-Istaqlal had filed two nomination papers. One of them was rejected, as he did not mention the name of seconder in it.

Another candidate, whose nomination papers were rejected was Raja Naseeb Khan of Qaumi Inqilabi Party, as his proposer did not belong to the same constituency required under the rules.

Allama Zahid Asghar Siddiqui (independent) was the third candidate, whose nomination papers were rejected, as his seconder was not the resident of NA-48.

The papers of Jalil Ahmed were also rejected on the same objections.

The Returning Officer of NA-49, Sanaullah Malik, adopted a different procedure for the scrutiny of papers.

He declared the nomination papers of three candidates complete. He would entertain the objections against other candidates on Wednesday.

The candidates, whose papers can be rejected, would be able to file appeal to the District Returning Officer Sheikh Ahmed Farooq till September 6 which would be decided till September 15.

September 16 is the last date for withdrawing the candidature and the next day the final list of the candidates for two seats of the National Assembly would be put on display.

Meanwhile, District Returning Officer Sheikh Ahmed Farooq presided over a meeting to evolve a strategy for holding free and fair elections in Islamabad.

The meeting examined the reports of the last elections and the recently-held referendum and reviewed the arrangements which had been made in the past.

Our Staff Reporter adds from Rawalpindi: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal candidate for provincial assembly seat from PP-13, Qari Abdul Rashid, was the first aspirant whose nomination papers were rejected in Rawalpindi district during the scrutiny that began here on Tuesday.

His papers were rejected on the ground that his proposer was not the resident of the constituency from where he wanted to contest.

The educational qualifications of PML-N candidate from PP-12, Shakeel Awan, were challenged but, the objection was overruled after he presented his original credentials.
