MIRPURKHAS, Aug 27: A gang of bandits escaped after a one- hour encounter with police in the jurisdiction of the Khan police station, Mirpurkhas taluka, on Monday night.

About eight bandits, led by Mumtaz Mari and Yousuf Mari, who had been active in Sanghar district, were challenged by the police personnel, deputed at a police picket, when they entered Mirpurkhas district.

A police force from different police stations was also called to siege the hideout of the bandits but the bandits dodged the police.

POWER SUPPLY: With the first drop of rain on Monday night, the power supply in Mirpurkhas and its suburb areas was suspended.

Mirpurkhas, Digri, Kot Ghulam Mohammad, Jhuddo, Samaro, Kunri, Shadi Palli, Umerkot, Mithi, Islamkot, Diplo, and Chhachhro were plunged into darkness.

The power supply remained suspended for nine hours.

DIES: Forty-year-old Razia, who was injured in an armed attack, died at the LMU Hospital, Hyderabad, on Monday night.

Mohammad Aslam Malik, the brother-in-law of the deceased, had injured her with axe in Rahim Nagar here over some petty matter. Her son, Imran, 13, was killed when he offered resistance.

The Satellite town police registered a double murder against the accused.

killed: A boy was axed to death while his mother sustained serious wounds in an attack by his uncle in Raheem Nagar here on Sunday.

The accused, Mohammad Aslam, attacked his sister-in-law, Razia and his nephew, Imran, 13, with an axe, resulting in serious injuries to both of them.

The injured were shifted to a Hyderabad hospital where Aslam died.

SUICIDE: A boy, Zakir Khaskheli, 15, committed suicide by taking pesticide in Longe Khaskheli village in Mirpurkhas taluka the other day.
