KARACHI, Aug 27: A division bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday issued notices to secretary of education, vice- chancellor of Hamdard University and other respondents, including HU dean, for a date to be fixed by the office of the court.
The bench was hearing a petition filed by Prof Mohammed Wali Khan, chief executive officer of the HU city and external campuses, challenging the appointment to public offices of the HU.
The petitioner maintained that the “first and foremost, primary and statutory condition to hold any HU office is the age limit and as all paid officials and employees shall be below 60 years of age.”
He argued that a “superannuated person can not be appointed or allowed to hold any statutory public office. For the same reason, the petitioner impugned the appointment of Dr Ismail Saad as vice-chancellor of the university; Prof Matin A. Khan, dean, faculty of management sciences and member of the board of governors; Prof S.I. Ahmed, dean, faculty of pharmacy; Dr Abdul Latif, director HIMS; Col Rafiq Ahmed (retired) registrar, and Aleem Akhtar, director finance of the university.—APP
