KARACHI, Aug 27: Reeling from Monday’s prolonged power breakdowns triggered by the monsoon rain, most people endured more of the same on Tuesday. For some, there was no break at all in the electricity breakdowns that went into motion on Monday.

A vast part of Malir, including Ibrahim Villas and Bagh-i- Malir, had no power supply since midday on Monday till the filing of this report.

Part of Shah Faisal Colony also suffered an unbroken spell of power failure. There had been no power supply since 1pm on Monday till late on Tuesday night in areas including Shah Faisal no 3, Rafah-i-Aam Society, Green Town, Azeempura and Golden Town.

A Green Town resident informed Dawn that the locality had been suffering without power since Monday morning, and the only respite was a brief return of electricity between 8 and 9pm on Tuesday, after which the lights went out again.

“The supply came on for a few seconds today around 7pm, but went out again after a few minutes,” said Kamal, a resident of Shah Faisal Colony no. 3.

Parts of Lyari suffered prolonged breakdowns on Tuesday also. “There has been no power supply from 3pm on Monday to 7.30pm on Tuesday,” said a resident from Khadda.

Calling from Saba Avenue in Defence’s Phase V extension, Naureen Mirza said there had been no power in her locality from 12 noon on Monday to 4.30pm on Tuesday.

“The supply went off again at 8pm. Now the KESC people say it’s a one-and-a-half hour loadshedding,” said the woman adding that, “I ask them why do they select an area for loadshedding that has already suffered hours of power breakdown?”

A resident from Landhi-4 said there was a breakdown of about two-and-a-half hours, from 10am to 12.30pm.

A resident from Block C, North Nazimabad said that the supply kept “coming and going” with brief intervals on Tuesday. Similar was the situation in PECHS around Tariq Road, where electricity supply was erratic since 4pm Tuesday, and went totally dead at 8pm till the filing of this report.
