Bishop threatens legal action

LAHORE, Aug 26: Bishop Dr Alexander John Malik of Lahore said on Monday they would move court if the government did not denationalize the missionary institutions.

Speaking at a seminar on denationalization of educational institutions, he said the government was afraid of agitation by those who were taking salaries without doing any work.

He said they would not allow the government to withdraw the scheme in the province under any pressure.

He said they had ensured the government every now and then that no missionary school or college would increase fee after acquiring denationalization.

He said the industries and hospitals were being denationalized so there must not be any hue and cry over the denationalization of educational institutions.

The Bishop said the denationalized schools were delivering good education. The future of students could not be put at risk by delaying in implementation of the Supreme Court order regarding denationalization.

Supreme Court Bar Association president Hamid Khan said nationalization of educational institutions had created disparity among various classes of society. To eliminate this, the government should denationalize the institutions without delay.

Mrs Bushra Aitzaz Ahsan said the missionary institutions were benefiting all, including Muslims. She said there was no truth in it that teachers’s would suffer from denationalization. She stressed to hand over all educational institutions to whom it belonged.
