LAHORE, Aug 26: PML-QA President Mian Azhar has proposed his brother Mian Ashraf as party’s official candidate for NA-120 (Lahore) as a result of which differences have cropped up among the top leadership.
The matter was discussed at a meeting here on Monday, but conflicting reports were received about the outcome.
Chaudhry Shujaat Husain, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and Mian Amir Mahmood were among the participants.
According to one leader, the Chaudhris of Gujrat want to put up Kamil Ali Agha on the seat as he has been winning it in the previous elections. It is said that they have told Kamil Ali Agha that they will do their best to have him accommodated.
However, reports emanating from Mian Azhar’s camp don’t endorse this view.
It is said that Mian Azhar is firm in his decision and he does not want to change it.
There are also differences on who should be a party candidate from NA-127 (Lahore).
Some people say that Aleem Khan, a novice in politics, has been accommodated because of the strong support he has among the official circles.
Mian Fazle Haq, a former MPA, was supposed to be the official candidate from this seat.
It is said that Mian Fazle Haq has been ignored because he does not have the required educational qualification. However, Mian was not available to confirm or deny it.
In a related development, it is said that Sheikh Rohail Asghar, who had recently joined the PML-QA, wants to contest from NA-123, a seat given to ex-MNA Mian Waheed.
There are reports that Mian Waheed will not be asked to change his constituency.
At present, Sheikh Rohail has been asked to contest from NA-124 (Lahore).
Party’s provincial vice-president Ayub Bhatty has filed his nomination papers from NA-125 (Lahore) against PML-QA’s official candidate Humayun Akhtar Khan. He says Humayun has no right to get a provincial seat for his brother.
Mian Azhar tried to persuade Mr Bhatty to withdraw his papers, but he refused.
It is because of differences on various seats that the party has not been able to release the official list of its candidates. —Staff Reporter
