KARACHI, Aug 25: Sindh Chief Secretary, K.B. Rind, has said that those affected by the Lyari Expressway projected would be provided water, electricity, gas and sewerage system in their new settlements.

He said so while reviewing the site of the settlement of those affected by the project, on Sunday. DCO Karachi Shafiqur Rehman Paracha and Expressway Project Director and other officials accompanied the Chief Secretary. He said the construction of water tanks in the new settlements would be completed in the next few days on priority basis. He said that a committee of area residents should also be formed to take care of the tanks.

He also ordered the construction of a school building with immediate effect for the area. He said the requirement of teachers and other staff would be met from within the area residents.

The area people expressed their delight over the shifting to new site and requested the Chief Secretary that encroachments should not be allowed and officials should be held responsible for encroachments.

Earlier the Chief Secretary was informed that those people would be provided alternative plots of 80 sq yards, besides 50,000 for the construction of houses. He was also informed that overall Rs740.550 million would be spent on the rehabilitation programme.—APP
