KARACHI, Aug 25: Water supply to various parts of former districts West and Central will be affected on Monday due to two power breakdowns at the KWSB’s North-East Karachi (NEK) pumping station on Sunday.
According to KWSB sources, pumping of water from the NEK pumping station remained suspended twice on Sunday, first from 11:50am to 12:30pm and again from 12:45 pm to 1:30 pm, causing a shortfall of over six million gallons of water.
The localities which would suffer on account of short supply of water include different sectors of Baldia, Orangi, North Karachi, Surjani and Shershah.
Complaints of an acute shortage of water have also been received from Clifton’s block 2, Bahadurabad’s block 3, Catholic Colony, Muslimabad and parts of Lyari and Kharadar.
Residents of Clifton’s block 2 deplored that they had been facing an acute shortage of water for the past six months, but the officials concerned of the KWSB had not bothered to solve their problem. “Whenever we approach the officials concerned of the KWSB to remind them of the persisting water shortage, officials told them that they were unable to release water to the locality in accordance with the schedule of water supply as they had been getting less supply of water from the source,” a perturbed resident said.
People residing in the vicinity of Kharadar’s police kiosk complained that despite the fact that a number of multi-storied buildings in the locality had been getting scant supply for the past two months, the KWSB had so far failed to take measures to restore normal supply of water.
Residents said in the absence of regular water supply they had no choice but to consume subsoil unhygienic water at the cost of their health. They demanded of the city Nazim and the KWSB managing director to instruct the officials concerned to immediately restore normal supply.
