KARACHI, Aug 25: A total of 28,000 auto-rickshaws in the city will be provided with silencers in the next five to six months and fitness certificates would be issued to only those auto-rickshaws which would install silencers.

These views were expressed by IGP Sindh Syed Kamal Shah while speaking at a workshop on “law and environment” at the federation house.

The workshop was organized by the foundation for “Progress” in collaboration with Sindh Environment Protection Agency and the police department.

The IGP informed the participants about various initiatives taken by the police for improving the environment with special reference to introduction of silencers in the auto-rickshaws.

The opening session was attended, among others, by the Capital City Police Officer, Karachi Asad Jehangir Khan, DIG Traffic, Saeed Ahmed, secretary environment, forest and wildlife, and DG EPA.—PPI
