ISLAMABAD, Aug 24: The government and the World Bank on Saturday signed legal documents for $20 million interest free loan the WB would offer to support Community Infrastructure and Services Project in Azad Kashmir.
World Bank’s Acting Country Director Abid Hussain, Economic Affairs Division Secretary Dr Waqar Masood Khan and AJK Local Government and Rural Development Secretary Sardar Mohammad Siddique signed the agreement.
Major portion of the funds would be spent on providing infrastructure services, including water supply, sanitation, access roads and bridges, street pavement and drainage.
The long-term objectives of the project is delivering effective and sustainable community development programmes, strengthening the role of the capabilities of the district and lower level, increasing people’s participation through community development, expanding community-based organizations and improving effective governance and accountability.
