DADU, Aug 24: Three persons were killed and 20 others were injured critically in an accident on the Indus Highway at the Chowdgi Bridge, some 12 kilometres away from here on Saturday.

According to reports, a Mehar-bound passenger wagon (PE-1853) on its way from Dadu collided with a passenger wagon (H-0843) coming from the opposite direction at the Chowdgi Bridge as a result of which three passengers died on the spot while 20 others were injured seriously.

All the injured were admitted to the Civil Hospital, Dadu.

The deceased were identified as Ms Zarina, 19, wife of Nazir Khand; Ms Sakeena, 25, wife of Mukhtiar Panhwar; and Ghulam Haider Magsi, 42, son of Mohammad Hussain.

Among the injured, 10 were shifted to LMU hospital, Jamshoro, and the PMC hospital, Larkana.

Wire theft: Some unidentified thieves cut 350-metre long 11KV electric wire near the Liaquat Medical University, 3km from the Jamshoro police station the other day and took it away.

On the complaint of the line superintendent, Jamshoro sub- division, Hesco, the Jamshoro police have registered an FIR against three unidentified thieves.

HIJACKED: Three unknown armed robbers blocked Kotri-Bihar Colony road the other day and snatched a motorcycle (4292) from Feroz Ahmed Shaikh.

ARRESTED: Five alleged robbers were arrested by the Dadu town and Khairpur Nathan Shah police the other day in two separate raids. The police also recovered automatic weapons and a good quantity of bullets from their possession.

According to the Dadu city police, on a tip off, they raided the guest room of an alleged robber, Badruddin in Kunbhar Mohalla here and arrested Badruddin, Habibullah Jamali, Rajab Chandio and Haji Korai.

The police said that they also recovered a USA-made automatic rifle, a pistol and 10 bullets from their possession.

The police have lodged four separate FIRs against them.

Meanwhile, the police raided a place on Indus Highway near Khairpur Nathan Shah and arrested an alleged robber, Khadim Shaikh, and recovered a shotgun and 12 cartridges from his possession.

The Khairpur Nathan Shah police have registered an FIR against him.

Arrested: Nine villagers were arrested, according to their relatives, without a warrant, by the Dadu city investigation police in a raid at Hayat Khan Jamali village the other day.

Mushtaq Jamali and Khuda Bukhsh, residents of the said village, told newsmen here that the police raided nine houses of the village without a search warrant.

They said that the police arrested Waris, Wahid Bukhsh, Abdul Rehman, Zaidullah, Hussain, Ghafoor, Moula Bukhsh, Budho and Rajab Jamali.

Those arrested were taken to the Dadu police station.

The villagers alleged that the police broke furniture and beat up womenfolk and children.
