SANGHAR, Aug 24: The Shahpur Chakar police recovered 19 bonded peasants, including women and children, from Sanjarani Kot of landlord Abdul Khaliq Sanjarani on Friday.
The recovered peasants said they had been working with the landlord for the last ten years but due to severe drought for the last three years they were unable to cultivate their lands due to the non-availability of water and wanted to work elsewhere to save their children from starvation.
They said Kamdars of the landlord, Kirshan Bheel and Akbar Sanjarani, took away their NICs and forced them to work in the field in the day and kept them in four walls at night.
They said they were not given enough food to meet their needs.
The police presented Ramchand, Ms Maloka, Ms Kalan, Pehlaj, Ms Shabo and Ms Ganga before the taluka police officer, Ghulam Shabbir Shahani, in Shahdadpur where their statements were recorded and were handed over to the representatives of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan who took them to Hyderabad.
