SAHIWAL, Aug 23: A local court on Friday ordered registering a case against the muharrar and other staff for refusing to hand over a detainee to the bailiff and passing threats.

An inquiry against the Grain Market SHO, the police post incharge SI and the muharrar/head constable was also ordered. The head constable was arrested for the contempt of court as well.

Ghulam Rasool of Chak 132/9-L was unlawfully detained by By-pass police post and was kept under chain. The judge directed bailiff Javed Iqbal to recover the detainee. The bailiff went to recover the detainee, but muharrar Zaheer Ahmed refused to comply court orders and instead hurled threats on the bailiff.

On the directions of the judge, the DPO suspended SHO Ghulam Abbas Khera and ordered arresting muharrar Zaheer Ahmed for contempt of court.

WIDOW DIES: A widow, lessee of evacuee property in Chak 77/5-R, died on Friday due to shock when the department asked her to pay Rs150,000 for her three-marla house.

An evacuee property team had auctioned a nine-marla house for Rs0.5 million. Taking this a yardstick, the team asked Barkat Bibi to pay Rs150,000 which the woman could not sustain. Later, the auction committee returned.
