NOWSHERA, Aug 23: Talks between Awami National Party and Pakistan People’s Party (Sherpao) on seat adjustment in the district failed here on Friday.

After failure of talks both parties have decided to field their candidates on the two National Assembly and five provincial assembly seats in Nowshera district.

The first round of talks was held between Azam Hoti of ANP and Aftab Ahmad Sherpao of PPP (S). The second round of parleys was held between the district leadership of the two parties which failed to bear any fruit.

During the talks it transpired that the ANP was willing to leave the constituency of PF-13 only to PPP (S), whereas the latter was demanding one National and two provincial assemblies seats from ANP.

The ANP turned down that demand, stating that during the last elections it won in all these constituencies.

Nowshera district has already been focus of politicking during the electoral process as two heavy weights, the Jamaat-i- Islami’s chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad and PPP leader Naseerullah Babar, have been facing each other.

The ANP has announced that it would file nomination papers on Saturday on all seats. The nominees of ANP are: Rashid Ali Shah on NA-5, Haji Sherzada Khan on NA-6, Mian Iftikhar Hussain on PF- 12, Syed Sadaqat Shah Kakakhel on PF-13, Syed Zahid Hayat Gillani on PF-14, Khalil Abbas on PF-15 and Dr Kamal on PF-16.
