KARACHI, Aug 23: Doctors, mainly gynaecologists, while reviewing the case analysis of deliveries conducted at city hospitals, observed with concern the surge in cases of caesarean section.
In a meeting held here on Friday, the doctors recommended provision for special scrutiny committee, comprising senior health-care providers in each hospital to maintain a vigil and ensure patients’ security.
On the basis of data available, it was observed that despite no urgency many of the infants were not delivered normally, and it often exposed both mothers and babies to serious risks.
Lack of adequate expertise on the part of doctors, including anaesthetists, also made normal cases complicated.
Inappropriate facilities, particularly in maternity clinics, was also enumerated as a factor often affecting quality of treatment and care provided to patients.
It was also noted that high fees for the cases tackled through gadgets was considered to be among one of the major contributory factors towards this tendency.—APP
