PESHAWAR, Aug 23: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), NWFP chapter, is facing a split over seat adjustment as the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) threatened to field its own candidates on four provincial assembly seats against the alliance nominees in Peshawar District.
Sabir Hussain Awan, the JI Peshawar district amir, told Dawn here on Friday that the MMA parliamentary board had ignored the Jamaat in seat distribution and allotted only three out of 11 seats of the provincial assembly.
“Our workers are bitterly disappointed. The JI will not render more sacrifices and is thinking for other options,” the JI leader said. He said the Jamaat leadership was in negotiation with PPP (Sherpao group), PML (N) and NAPP. He added that even the constituencies allotted to JI were not winning seats.
He said they had been allocated PF-6, PF-7 and PF-10, while Jamaat demanded four seats, i.e., PF-1, PF-3, PF-5 and PF-8, Peshawar. The parliamentary board allotted PF-1 to Muttahida Jamiat Ahl-i-Hadiat, PF-3, PF-5 and PF-8 to Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (F).
Mr Awan said JI would raise voice against unfair and wrongful distribution of provincial assembly seats and the JI candidates would contest elections on four provincial assembly seats in Peshawar.
He said the JI district Peshawar would nominate Malik Pervez Khan on PF-1, Dr Liaquat on PF-3, Imdad Khan Khalil on PF-5 and Israrullah on PF-8. However, a spokesman for Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (F) rejected the Jamaat’s point of view, saying that if JI violated the parliamentary board decision his party would field its candidates against JI in other districts of the province.
