HYDERABAD, Aug 23: The activists of the PPP (SB) staged token hunger strike outside the local press club on Friday to protest against the inordinate delay in the dispensation of justice in the Mir Murtaza Bhutto murder case, incarceration of Ali Mohammad Sonara, price hike, and rampant unemployment.

Talking to newsmen, Pervez Baloch, Shahab Shaikh, and Irshad Qureshi said that the proceedings of the Mir Murtaza Bhutto murder case were going on at a snail’s pace and even after six years justice had not been provided.

They said contrary to this, the murder case of American journalist Daniel Pearl had been decided and exemplary punishment had been awarded to the accused.

They pointed out that Ali Mohammad Sonara had been languishing in jail for years but he had been totally forgotten by the government.

They said that the prices of consumer goods and utilities had increased to such an extent that they had become luxuries for the common man.

They said that many innocent people had committed suicides due to unemployment but the government had remained totally indifferent.

They demanded that the murderers of Mir Murtaza Bhutto and his companions should be awarded death sentence, Ali Mohammad Sonara should be released, the prices of consumer goods should be reduced, and the unemployed youth should be given jobs.

AWAMI TEHRIK: Some activists of the Awami Tehrik led by Imran Burdi, Irfan Burdi, Mazhar Baloch, and Asif Bhutto, resident of Wahi Pandhi, staged token hunger strike outside the press club on Friday to protest against the alleged excesses of the DSP, headquarters, Sikandar Mangi, ASI Ali Nawaz Gadhi, and other police officers.

Talking to newsmen, the huger strikers said that the police had made the lives of the people miserable.

They said that the poor people were being involved in false cases by the police which was supporting the criminals.

They appealed to the higher police officers to order an impartial inquiry against the above-mentioned police officers.

ZEAL PAK EMPLOYEES: Hunger strike by the former Zeal Pak employees in protest against the non-payment of their golden handshake amount and alleged misappropriation of their provident fund entered its 40th day on Friday outside the Hyderabad Press Club.

PPP: The rebel group of the Pakistan Peoples Party, city chapter, on Friday held a rally outside the press club to protest against the alleged rigging in the party elections on July 28.

They raised slogans against what they called the “ballot-paper thieves”.

Talking to newsmen, Abdul Ghani Khoso said that these people would not be allowed to misappropriate ballot papers like Baitul Maal fund.

They appealed to the party chairperson, Ms Benazir Bhutto, Makhdoom Mohammad Amin Fahim, Nisar Ahmed Khoro, Aftab Shahban Mirani, and other central leaders of the party to take notice of the rigging in the party elections.

They warned that if justice was not provided, they would stage a protest sit-in outside the Bilawal House, Karachi.

PROTEST: The councillor of Union Council No12, Hyderabad city, Saeed Umerdaraz Qureshi, has announced the other day that he would start a phase-wise peaceful protest movement against the inordinate delay in the establishment of a degree girls college on the Old Bakra Mandi plot and the delaying tactics adopted by the bureaucracy and the builders’ mafia.

In a statement, he said that it had become abundantly clear that the bureaucracy and the builders’ mafia had entered into an unholy alliance to defy the decisions of the elected representatives of the people.
