THATTA, Aug 22: The Sindh Governor Muhammedmian Soomro’s plan to contest the coming elections from PS-88, Ghorabari has evolved heated debate, resentment and hope among different sections of the Thatta people.
The local political scenario suggests that Mr Soomro’s election effort is going to be supported by Sindh Minister Aijaz Ali Shirazi and Thatta District Nazim Shafqat Hussain Shirazi.
Mr Soomro will confront former MNA, Haji Mohammad Usman Jalbani, known for having defeated Qadir Dino Shirazi, the late father of the Shirazi brothers, in the past.
Sources said that Jalbani’s nomination on the PPP ticket from this constituency was an unpleasant move for another PPP leader of the area, who thought his political career would be affected if Jalbani grabbed the seat.
Meanwhile, the Soomro community in the district has flatly refused to support Muhammedmian Soomro in elections.
Dr Abdul Wahid Soomro, the district president, PPP, and Abdul Karim Soomro, an elder of the local Soomro community, said that the community was a diehard supporter of the late Bhutto’s family and it was loyal to his party and as such it will not desert the PPP at this crucial time.
