RAWALPINDI, Aug 22: The NWFP government has asked Punjab and Sindh governments to take over the “blacklisted” prisoners, who fought alongside Taliban and are incarcerated in Haripur jail, sources said on Wednesday.

The 64 people, 32 of them belonging to Punjab and nine to Sindh were recently released from Afghanistan’s jails and since then they have been lodged in Haripur jail.

The sources said that a meeting to review the request of the NWFP government had taken place recently in the interior ministry.

The NWFP government representatives were of the view that Sindh and Punjab should take over the blacklisted prisoners while the people belonging to the Frontier province would remain in Haripur, the sources said.

The prisoners of other categories have been handed over to the provinces after being released by the Afghan government.

The sources said that up to 200 Pakistanis, who had been in Afghanistan’s jails, will be released in a few days.
