Leather export

KARACHI, Aug 22: Despite global recession and slower demand after Sept 11 incident export of leather and its goods during fiscal 2001-02 were fairly encouraging at $672 million.

According to export data released by Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) the overall export of leather industry during July-June 2001-02 has fallen down by 3 per cent over July-June 2000-2001. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the chairman, Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA), Masood Sheikh, said that export of finished leather has increased only in value and not in quantity.

However, export of leather gloves and leather footwear has increased during the last fiscal by 40 per cent. The export of leather garment declined by 14 per cent, he added.
