ISLAMABAD, Aug 19: Tarbela Dam, the largest water reservoir of the country, will reach its full storage capacity on Saturday. The inflow at the dam was recorded at 181,600 cusecs on Monday.

According to Indus River System Authority, water position at both Tarbela and Mangla will further improve this week owing to remarkable impact of recently occurred monsoon rains.

According to Irsa data, water level at Tarbela was recorded at 1,536ft which was about 165ft higher than the dead level of 1,369ft, and at Mangla it was 1,205ft which was more than the capacity of the dam.

When asked about the water position at Mangla, an official of the monitoring cell said it was satisfactory and there was no shortage of water at the dam. Outflow (25,522 cusec) from Mangla remained higher than inflow (22,200 cusec).

Level at Mangla was recorded 1,205ft, about 165ft higher than the dead level of 1,040ft.

When asked about the contribution of Chenab and Kabul rivers, he said the contribution was registered 56,510 cusec and 34,000 cusec, respectively.

It is pertinent to mention here that total inflow of the country’s rivers was recorded 294,310 cusec, while the outflow remained lower at 236,932 cusec.—APP
