GUJRAT, Nov 7: The district police on Wednesday thwarted an attempt to smuggle 360 kilogramme hashish, concealed in cutlery packs, to Belgium via Sialkot dryport.

SSP Riaz Ahmad told newsmen that police had got an information that some drug-traffickers were to supply a huge quantity of hashish to the Sialkot dryport.

He said a joint team of the CIA and Elite Force conducted a raid at a place near the Lorry Adda and seized 150 kg hashish. In another raid near Bhagowal Klan on Head-Marala Road, the team recovered additional 210 kg hashish which was hidden in packs of cutlery items.

Among the seven culprits traced so far, he said three belonged to northern areas, two to Wazirabad and the remaining two were employees of the Sialkot dryport.

Police have yet not disclosed their names for they are being investigated.

ROBBED OF: A man was robbed of Rs0.4 million near Baharwal Chowk by a masked robber who was arrested after a short while here on Wednesday.

Shahid Butt had withdrawn the amount from the MCB’s Kharian branch. He was on his way home when the robber intercepted him, snatched cash from him at gunpoint, and escaped. Shahid immediately informed the Saddar police who conducted a raid and arrested the accused along with the booty. The arrested accused was later identified as Nasir.
