KARACHI, Aug 19: The city Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, on Monday announced that the city government would provide Rs 20 million to Orangi Town for completing the construction of Shahrah-i-Orangi and the amount will be made available by next week.

He made this announcement at a reception held on the occasion of inauguration of a computer lab in Orangi on Sunday.

The city government, he said, does not make any distinction between towns and development schemes are being implemented in each town on the basis of equality.

He said that in Orangi Town, construction of roads has started on a large scale and Abdullah College (Orangi Road) will be completed in four months.

Naimatullah Khan said work on Bacha Khan roundabout has started while construction of road from Banaras Chowk to Madinatul Hikmat will commence soon.

He said that the city government has not only resumed work on all those roads where development schemes had halted but completed the same in many cases.

The Nazim said work has also started on city’s 10 major roads and the city government will be spending Rs 1.5 billion on repair and construction of thoroughfares.

Meanwhile, addressing a public meeting in Frontier Colony, the City Nazim said alternative sources of water supply are being explored and a proposal was under study for installation of a sewerage recycling plant with the cooperation of foreign investors. This plant will supply water to Karachi industries and will save drinking water for supply to deficit areas.

He said studies are being carried out for recycling of sea-water while tenders have been invited for exploring sub-soil water near rivers close to Karachi.

He told the gathering that he was treating all city towns on the basis of justice and equality and hoped that the towns, too, will treat their union councils on equal footing.

He said in case any injustice is done to any town or UC, he would interfere as the city Nazim.

During a visit to Bacha Khan Chowk, the Nazim assured a delegation of hawkers that City Government will not do injustice to anyone.

He said any decision taken will be in the interest of city and Karachiites. He assured them that they will not be displaced and in fact a hawker’s zone will be developed where concerned Union Council will recover the fee.

He said this will help the UCs to enhance their revenue while no government functionary would harass the hawkers also.—APP
