KARACHI, Aug 19: A man committed suicide in Quaidabad on Monday.
Police said that Khizir Hayat, aged 40, a railway employee, jumped down from the Quaidabad Bridge and died on the spot.
Following the incident, a large number of people gathered at the spot. Police were informed. Witnesses, however, said that police came very late to the spot.
Later, the body was sent to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for post-mortem.
CARJACKING: Fifteen vehicles — three cars and 12 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Monday, police said.
Two cars were hijacked. Another was stolen.
Six motorcycles were hijacked. Six others were stolen.
Police also claimed on Monday to have recovered two cars and three motorcycles in the city.
ROAD ACCIDENTS: Two young men died in road accidents in the city on Monday.
A teenager was knocked down by an unidentified speeding vehicle near Baqai Hospital on the main Nazimabad road in the morning.
Police said that Kashif, aged 18, was run over by an unidentified vehicle when walking across the main road. He was rushed to nearby Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
A young motorcyclist died when he skidded on a road in Mauripur. Police said that Usman, aged 22, was riding on a motorcycle (LXE-3991) in the morning when he skidded near Bilal Chowki.
DIES: A suspect who had been injured in an alleged encounter with police in Kalakot area on Saturday, died in police custody on Monday.
The suspect, identified as Murad Ali, aged 40, had suffered a bullet wound to his leg during the shootout with police. Police arrested his four accomplices in Mazar Wali-Gali, Kalakot.
Police said that the suspect was taken to Civil Hospital under police guard for treatment. On Sunday, he was again taken to the hospital where he was given blood. After blood transfusion he was discharged from the hospital.
Sources at the hospital said that the bullet was removed from Murad’s body and post-operative treatment was in progress.
After his death in police lock-up the body was sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem, police said.
KILLED: A young man was found murdered in Surjani Town on Monday.
Police said that the body of a young man, who was in his late 20s, was found at a deserted place in sector 4-B in Surjani Town. He was clad in shalwar- kameez and there were torture marks all over his body.
The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.
After post-mortem, the body was sent to the Edhi’s morgue where it has been kept for identification.
Police lodged an FIR against unknown persons, a duty officer at Surjani Town police station said.
