PESHAWAR, Aug 18: Pakistan People’s Party (Sherpao) will plead its case with the Election Commission seeking “arrow” as symbol for October elections.

Central Information Secretary of PPP (S), Barrister Iftikhar Ahmed will represent the party before the Election Commission at Islamabad on Monday, said a press release issued here on Sunday.

“PPP(S) stakes claims over the arrow symbol and our demand is genuine because we are the real PPP,” contended Barrister Iftikhar.

He also rejected the claim of PP (Parliamentarians) over arrow as almost all their (PPP) registered office-holders were elected with arrow as symbol.

Earlier, in a letter addressed to EC, PPP(S) had asked for the allotment of an “arrow” symbol as the party fulfilled all the requirements for it.

Barrister Iftikhar said that the allotment of a symbol on multiple applications should be made according to the past history of the symbol.

He said that PP (Parliamentarians) had also applied for arrow, but they could not demonstrate any historic claim to it as their purported elected office-holders consist of only two persons who had been elected on this symbol.

Whereas, almost all of our registered office-holders have been elected with this symbol more than once in the past, he added.

He said that PP (Parliamentarians) was registered after PPP (Benazir) stayed away from registration for obvious reasons. —APP
