HYDERABAD, Aug 18: A central leader of the Sindh Taraqqi Passand Party and chairman Thar Action Forum, Nandlal Malhi, has said that in the absence of rainfall Thar was again in the grip of the worst drought and the people were almost starving.

In a statement issued on Sunday, he said that the people had no money, not even for medical treatment, and the livestock was perishing.

He said that the wells had dried up and the water level had gone down.

He said the people had started moving to barrage areas.

He appealed to the government to declare Thar District as a calamity-hit area and start the relief work without any further delay to save the lives of the people and the livestock.

MEETING: The central committee, Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party (STPP), at its session held here on Saturday and Sunday, appointed a two-member committee to prepare a website of the party by Sept.

The committee comprises of Dr Hameed Memon and Muzaffar Kalhoro.

The meeting also decided to publish a monthly magazine” Inqalab Waat” (the path to revolution) for which an editorial board, comprising Ali Hassan Chandio, Hot Khan Gadahi and Haider Mallah, was appointed.

Hassan Samoon will oversee the working of the editorial board.

It also appointed Mehboob Abro as the head of the human rights wing and legal aid committee and Haider Mallah as the head of the social and cultural wing of the party.

Saleh Junejo, Nandlal Malhi and Ali Mohammad Lashari were appointed divisional coordinators of defunct Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Sukkur divisions.

The chairman of the Sindh Taraqqi Passand Party, Dr Qadir Magsi, presided over the two-day session, which also discussed the prevailing political situation and strategy for the ensuing general election.
