QUETTA, Aug 17: Balochistan Governor Amirul Mulk Mengal on Wednesday dispelled the impression that Nazims were not granted powers according to the Local Bodies Ordinance.

“The government has granted all powers to the Nazims which were given to the Nazims in other provinces,” he told newsmen after flag hoisting at the Governor’s House on the Independence Day.

He said complaints by Nazims in this regard were not correct and the government had no intention to deprive them of their powers.

He said the local government system needed some time to begin running smoothly and the government was making efforts to make it successful. He said the bureaucracy would not be allowed to create hurdles in the system.

“The government will keep an eye on the mistakes of the district governments,” Governor Mengal said and added that no official would be allowed to disturb the system.

Responding to a question, he said the government had approved salaries of councillors, Nazims and Naib Nazims and other facilities would also be provided to them.

ADDRESS: Speaking at the ceremony, he said the government was making all possible efforts to establish real democracy.

He said the government was introducing amendments to the Constitution for removing anomalies, establishing a stable government and giving a clean and strong political system to the country.

He said the government was making efforts for conducting free fair and transparent elections in October.
