KARACHI, Aug 17: The Al-Markaz Islami being built in F.B. Area for the last two decades has finally become functional with the inauguration of a calligraphic exhibition there which was opened by Nazim Naimatullah Khan.

Though the building is owned by the community development department of the city government, the Gulberg town has taken an initiative in making the building functional.

About 135 art pieces in various mediums by some 100 artists and calligraphers are on display.

Photo-copies of a number of hand-written specimens of Holy Prophet and his companions are also being displayed in the exhibition besides works of two Pakistanis whose names appear in the Guinness Book of World Record are also being displayed. The show will continue till Aug 23.

The Quran and Hadith academy of the city government for which Rs20 million have been allocated would be established in the building of Al-Markaz Islami which is yet to be formally inaugurated.—PPI
