RAWALPINDI, Aug 16: Punjab Governor Lt-Gen Khalid Maqbool on Friday appealed to the civilised countries to come forward and help Pakistan in its fight against terrorism.

During a visit to the Christian Mission Hospital in nearby Taxila where a grenade attack left five nurses and an attacker dead, the governor said: “A developing country cannot fight the menace of terrorism alone.”

He said the world should reciprocate Pakistan’s support for the international campaign against terrorism. Gen Maqbool reiterated the government’s resolve that the menace of terrorism would be dealt with sternly and said the country’s masses stood with the government in this campaign.

He said the government supported the international campaign for the common objectives of development, peace and cooperation.

The governor distributed cheques for Rs100,000 among the heirs of those killed in the attack and for Rs25,000 among those injured.

Speaking on the occasion, federal Minister for Minorities Col S. K. Tressler (retired) said terrorists did not have any religion, as no religion allowed its followers to massacre others.

On behalf of his ministry, he announced an additional Rs100,000 for those killed in the grenade attack on the chapel. He also promised a Rs400,000 assistance for the hospital.
