HYDERABAD, Aug 16: The central secretary general, Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA), Prof Liaquat Aziz, has hailed the decision of the Sindh Government to withdraw the privatization policy regarding the educational institutions of the province.
In a statement issued here on Friday, he said that it was high time that the government also withdrew its decision regarding computer fees.
He pointed out that the Nazim of Karachi city, Naimatullah Khan, had already fixed the computer fee at the rate of Rs500 per annum in the colleges of Karachi which were equipped with computer laboratories.
Prof Aziz said that no college in the interior of Sindh was equipped with a computer library, and, therefore, an amount of Rs30 per month should be charged as computer fee from the students of first year.
He demanded that the students of second year should be exempted from the payment of computer fee because the Board would only hold first year examinations in March 2003.
He said that teachers’ organizations should be taken into confidence on all educational matters to save the educational system of the province from complete destruction.
SEMINAR: Mehran University of Engineering and Technology organized a multidisciplinary seminar on “Mechatronics: the technology for future” and “Optical fibre communication and globalization” on Friday.
Speaking at the seminar, Dr M.I. Panhwar, Chairman, Mechanical Engineering department, said that mechatronics technology integrated mechanical devices with electronic control.
Prof Dr Obaidur Rehman, a visiting professor under United Nations Development Programme, in his presentation, said that computer integrated manufacturing was taking lead in this area of automation.
He also explained the outline of four-year syllabus for mechatronics engineering.
Prof Dr B.S. Choudhry, Chairman, Electronics and Telecommunication department, highlighted advancement in optical fibre technology.
Dr Abdul Rehman Memon, Vice Chancellor, MUET, and Dr A.Q.K. Rajput, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, MUET, thanked Dr Rehman for his visit and for being instrumental in launching the new discipline of Mechatronics Engineering at the university.
The seminar was attended by a large number of faculty members, postgraduate students and professionals from the industrial sector.
SU CLASSES: The Registrar, University of Sindh, Prof Ferozuddin Kazi, has notified, here on Friday that morning and evening classes, in the institutes and departments, have started from Thursday.
He said the hostel rooms had also been given to the students. He said the bus service for the students had become operative on different routes.
