KARACHI, Aug 16: A meeting to review the Karachi Urban Transport Scheme was held at the transport and communication department of the city government here on Friday under the chairmanship of chairman Transport Committee, Hafiz Ahmed Ali.
Giving the salient features of the scheme, EDO transport Dr Tahir Soomro said the city government had invited proposals from local and foreign transport organisers for operating air-conditioned and non-AC large buses on the city’s 18 major routes.
He said the offers were invited till August 20, 2002, and the date would not be extended any further. He added that so far 15 parties had approached the department for plying large size air-conditioned buses.
Chairman Transport Committee said that it had become necessary to check the trend of travelling on cars and motorcycles and for that a modern transport system was needed.—APP
