KARACHI, Aug 15: Mr. Abdul Raza’s four-year-old, My Freedom won the Independence Day Cup run over six furlongs beating public fancy and odds on favourite Sweet Touch in a grand finish at the local race Club Wednesday.

Sweet Touch was fancied by the patrons of the turf on her past reputation but short of work proved too much for her. Her rider, Shafi Mohammad, tried run away tactics while My Freedom was kept a handy second and third by her rider Shahzad.

Shahzad charged her mount in a most calculated manner in the final stretch and managed to score a half length victory over Sweet Touch. My apprehension about Sweet Touch proved wrong as Sweet Touch was short of one competitive run.

My Freedom too in his last outing had fallen victim of the same reason. Shahzad’s handling of My Freedom was brilliant which once again proved that he has not lost his touch. The winner was saddled by Mansoor Alam.

The day proved fruitful for Mr Syed Sadruddin Shah who worked out a lucrative double through Hoor-e-Mehran in the third race and Raqeeb-e-Azam, both three-year-olds who broke their maiden rank. They were sent out by trainer Allah Judrio and ridden by Ghulam Shabbir who piloted home the winners.
