LAHORE, Aug 13: Well-backed bay colt, Love Faisal, stormed home to make amends for his defeat last time out to win the second race during the Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse Tuesday.
Love Faisal, who was badly hooked by his rider Wednesday last, was confidently backed by his connections at half-money favourite.
He defeated chestnut gelding Science Fiction by three-and-a- quarter lengths. Golden Voice and Sugar Dady completed the frame among 15 starters. Love Faisal was ridden by riding boy Shahid Mustafa, who was alerted in advance by the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards to ride honestly. The colt clocked the day’s fastest timing of 50 4/5 seconds over the 800 metres.
Chestnut gelding Pistol Pete lived up to his status of favouritism to oblige his backers registering a close win over filly New Valley, in the feature and fifth event of the day. New Valley failed to match Pistol Pete’s strides in the last furlong and was defeated by a neck’s verdict in photo-finish.
Sherganzer and Royal Man completed the board among seven runners left in after the last minute withdrawal of Fly To The Stars. Riding boy Qamar Zaman rode Raja Tehmasab Khan trained Pistol Pete.
Roan gelding, Subzero landed the third race, which looked a made-up affair. Eeven-year-old Subzero came rushing from far behind to beat the chestnut colt Blue Champion by about two lengths. Bay filly My Fantasy finished third while chestnut colt Royal Academy completed the frame.
However fancied mare Madam Lorina put up a dismal show and finished among also ran. The stewards questioned her rider Zulfi and not being satisfied with his explanation warned him off for three months and also stopped entries of Madam Lorina to run in races for the same period. But the jockey of My Fantasy, who played hide and seek with his mount succeeded in staisfying stewards and escaped unscathed.
Long shot Jungle Beat outpaced her seven rivals to win the fourth and supporting event in a handy position. She defeated fancied Track Star, Golden Time and Canopy, who completed the board in the same order.
Another long shot bay mare Silver Sweet won the opener defeating fancied Pappa Jan. Delta Song and Free Lancer finished third and fourth.
Jockey Majid Khan excelled among riders by bringing home a brace of winners. He won the third race on Subzero and the fifth on Jungle Beat.
