KARACHI, Aug 12: Featherweight Haider Ali, who won Pakistan’s lone gold in Commonwealth Games in Manchester (England), is looking forward to grab another gold in forthcoming Asian Games in Busan, South Korea.

Quetta-born Haider said that he achieved the glory for the country despite lack of facilities and resources at home while speaking Monday at a reception hosted in his honor for winning the gold medal in CW Games Manchester.

The gold-medalist said he gained valuable experience in CW Games having fought against the top notch boxers from Asia, Africa and experienced European boxers.

“Immense experience which I gained in CW Games will help me to perform even better” he maintained. Haider is also ambitious to perform well in Olympics.

Haider revealed prior to his final bout against Pun Bahadur Som of India he was receiving anonymous threat calls with purpose to mentally put him under pressure.

“I was told that Pun is a soldier in India Army who fought in Kargil war with a lot of courage” he said. “These threats did not impress me nor they put me under any kind of pressure” he said.

He recalled that one of Pakistani boxer Shahid Jan had out pointed Pun Bahadur in recently held Asian championship. Pun was already scared against me.”That gave me confidence in the final” he observed.—APP
