FAISALABAD, Aug 11: Weekly special prayers at all the churches in the district were held on Sunday amid tight security.

According to reports, the police high-ups had deputed four constables, headed by an assistant sub-inspector, each at the 195 churches in all the six tehsils. Policemen in plain clothes were seen checking the visitors minutely.

The police high-ups have also deputed special police commandos around all the churches in the morning. Lady police force had also been deputed at the main gates of the churches.

Sub-divisional police officer of the Civil Lines, during a surprise raid at the church near the Chenab Club Chowk, awarded Rs1,000 fine each to two head constables who were sitting under the tree. He ordered strict disciplinary action against them for breach of duties.

The police officials have asked the Christian leaders, especially heads of churches, not to hold memorial service or other religious congregations without getting proper approval by government agencies. — Staff Correspondent
