KARACHI, Aug 10: Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and Habib Bank (HBL) set up a final showdown after defeating their rivals in the All-Pakistan invitation football tournament at Baloch Mujahid Stadium Saturday.
HBL, in the first semifinal, proved too strong as they outplayed hosts Baloch Mujahid 3-1, starting with a Shahid Saleem goal in the 24th minute.
Baloch Mujahid were left ruing a golden chance to level when Taj Mohammad missed a penalty in the 30th minute.
Mohammad Ayub compounded Baloch Mujahid’s miseries when he had his name on to the scoresheet five minutes later helping the bankers forge 2-0 ahead.
Baloch Mujahid finally got the first through Mohammad Hanif in the 80th minute, but that proved a consolation.
Six minutes later, Mohammad Bashir sealed the victory for the bankers.
KPT, powered by two opportunist strikes by Abdul Khaliq in each half, edged past Mauripur Baloch 2-1.
After struggling for 40 minutes in the first half, Khaliq’s clinical finish provided KPT a 1-0 lead. Khaliq conjured up the second in the 67th minute.
The solitary goal from Mauripur Baloch came three minutes before time via a spot kick converted by Abdul Qayyum.
