Poisonous water claims two lives

DADU, Aug 10: Two villagers died and some villagers were hospitalized due to drinking of poisonous water in Thana Bula Khan taluka the other day.

Haji Mateero Sahtani, 35, and his daughter, Nazeeran, 6, residents of Haji Ibrahim Sahtani village, died after drinking poisonous water of a well.

A number of residents of Walidad Gabol, Tiko Baran, Taung, Gul Mohammad Sahtani, Haji Ibrahim Sahtani and surrounding villages of Thana Bula Khan taluka were hospitalized in the health centres of Taung and Tiko Baran for the same reason.

When contacted, Executive District Officer, health, Dadu, Dr Khadim Hussain, said that to ascertain the cause of deaths of the two villagers, health department had sent water samples of the area wells to the Tando Jam laboratory.

SHOW CAUSE NOTICES: A vaccinator was suspended and four doctors were issued show-cause notices at Unnarpur Health Centre on Saturday for remaining absent from duty.

On the directives of Dadu District Nazim Malik Asad Sikandar, the EDO, health, Dr Khadim Hussain, paid surprise visit at the health centre, Unnarpur.

He found Medical Superintendent Dr Sajjad Ali Shah, three medical officers, Dr Mohammad Tariq, Dr Riaz Shaikh, Dr Naheed Fayyaz, and a vaccinator, Imtiaz Ali absent from duty.

The EDO suspended the vaccinator and issued show cause notices to the absentee doctors.

SUICIDE: A villager, Rustam Ali, 35, committed suicide by shooting himself with a gun over some domestic problem in Khanpur village, Khairpur Nathan Shah taluka on Saturday.
