KARACHI, Aug 10: The second show, IDEAS-2002, will be inaugurated by President Gen Pervez Musharraf on September 16, Maj-Gen Syed Ali Hamid, director-general of the Defence Export Promotion Organization, and Pegasus Consultancy MD Asim Siddiqui told a press conference on Saturday.
Gen Hamid said preparations for IDEAS 2002 had been finalized and all measures have been taken into account to make the event a success, keeping the intense security requirements in view.
IDEAS 2000 was held in Karachi in November 2000. He said IDEAS 2002 would be held at a much larger scale and more than 40 military and defence delegations were expected to visit the exhibition.
A seminar to be held on the occasion will consist of two sessions, providing in-depth information on “Asia Security Scenario” and Asian Defence Market,’ while discussing the “ Emerging Security Environment in Asia” as a whole.
Gen Hamid said approximately 600 invitees were expected to attend the seminar.
A large number of exhibitors from China, USA, UK, Turkey, France, Russia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Italy, Rumania and Ukraine have reserved their exhibit spaces at the IDEAS 2002.
The DEPO chief said all the delegates had been invited to the air defence show, featuring aerial display of K-8, super Mushak and RPVS, as well as demonstration of firing capabilities of land-based weapons, including Al-Khalid tank, Anza guided missile system and Baktar Shikan anti-armour weapon system.—APP/PPI
