Conditional exemption

Published August 11, 2002

ISLAMABAD, Aug 10: The government has notified conditional exemption of customs duty on import of plant, machinery and equipment not manufactured locally.

The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has issued a notification on Saturday reviving the SRO439 issued on June 18, 2001, which was rescinded in the budget 2002-03.

The facility would come into effect retrospectively from June 15, 2002, said the notification.

The decision was taken following the repeated demands of some industries who were facing problems in imports of machinery which were not covered in the customs tariff.
