GUJRAT, Aug 9: The provincial law minister directed the district police officer to extend help to a complainant whose daughter was gang-raped by three people in Theekarian, Dawn learnt here on Friday.

Victim ‘S’, 23, was alone when accused Aslam, Bashir and Nazar forced their entry into the house and raped her at gunpoint, her father told this scribe.

Lalamusa Sadar police registered a rape case on the Lahore High Court orders 14 days after the incident, he added.

He claimed that SHO Raza Awan has been helping the accused and extending them VIP facilities in a room inside police station.

He said the accused have been threatening him with dire consequences if he continued to pursue the case.

He said he met Law Minister Rana Ijaz and brought the matter into his notice. He wrote a letter to the DPO ordering him to help him, he added.

The DPO was not available for his comments when contacted by phone. However, SHO Awan said they were investigating.

ACCIDENT: A passenger died while five others sustained injuries when a Kharian-bound bus overturned near Gulliana on Friday.

The bus (PRP-1567) was on its way to Kharian from Jalalpur Jattan. The driver lost control over the steering near Gulliana and the bus overturned. Ghulam Ghaus, 33, died on the spot while five others sustained injuries. The names of the injured could not be known.
