GUJRANWALA, Aug 9: Several Naib Nazimeen and councillors on Friday walked out of the tehsil council meeting to protest non-provision of funds for development projects.

Reports said the members of the opposition boycotted the meeting and walked out of the hall, accusing the government of not providing them funds for development schemes in their respective union councils.

They demanded the authorities concerned should provide them the funds without delay. Tehsil Nazim Capt Mubasher Ahmad Cheema (retired) and Naib Nazim Sardar Inamul Haq, later, assured the protesters that they would be provided funds.

ESCAPES: An accused, who sustained injuries in an exchange of fire between two rival groups on Thursday, escaped from the Civil Hospital on Friday.

Reports said Muhammad Irshad Cheema was hospitalized when he sustained bullet injuries in an exchange of fire with his rival Ehsanullah in Talwandi Khajoorwali.

On Friday, he escaped from the hospital on seeing the police guard asleep. Cantonment police are investigating.

CONDEMN: Scores of traders have condemned raise in parking fee outside the former municipal office and demanded the tehsil council that it should withdraw the decision immediately.

At a meeting here on Friday, they said the tehsil council had enhanced car parking fee from Rs10 to Rs20. They alleged the contractor and his men humiliated the visitors and traders over the issue.

The traders urged tehsil Nazim Babu Javed Ahmad to take stock of the situation. They threatened they would launch a protest movement, if the decision was not withdrawn.

APPOINTED: PML-N former federal minister Ghulam Dastagir Khan has been appointed party’s chief organizer of the Punjab by PML-N chief Shahbaz Sharif.

Dawn learnt on Friday that the party chief had directed the newly-appointed organizer to manage things in consultation with the party’s devoted workers.

TEACHERS: The merit lists of candidates for teaching (secondary school educators, senior elementary school educators and elementary teachers) were displayed at Secondary District Education Office in district and all the tehsil headquarters here on Friday.

Reports said Executive District Officer (education) Dr Syed Sajjad Haider directed the candidates to put up their objections before him till Aug 15. Any objection without authentic proof or after stipulated date would not be accepted, he said.
