HARIPUR, Aug 9: To ensure maximum empowerment of the citizens, a Citizen Empowerment Bureau (CEB) was proposed for Haripur as a pilot project at a consultation workshop arranged by Human Rights and Gender Development Foundation, Haripur, here on Thursday.
Participated by the Nazimeen of over 15 union councils of the district and members of the Tehsil and District Councils, the participants discussed the pros and cons of the idea and termed it a step towards achieving the real objective laid down in the devolution of power to the grass root level.
They were of the view that though the government had, by abolishing the centuries-old colonial system, paved way to empowerment of neglected classes, but the citizens were still unaware of the their rights and duties of various departments, which needs to be inculcated in them, they added.
They also dubbed the performance of police, agriculture, revenue and other departments as quite unsatisfactory and problem creating entities and stressed the need of improving their traditional attitude.

Practical exams: The Peshawar University has failed to conduct practical examinations of the BSc students despite a lapse of some three weeks since the annual examination of BA/BSc which ended on July 16.
The examination department had notified that the practical examinations of chemistry, physics, botany and zoology would be held between July 29 and Aug 3, but it failed to send examiners to the Degree College in Khaar, Bajaur Agency.
